The expectations around Trevor Story were incredibly high ahead of the <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/mlb/mlb-playoffs-format-how-do-the-postseason-work-213-20220503-SPD-213.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">2022 MLB season</a>. Following an impressive tenure with the <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/mlb/nolan-arenado-credits-albert-pujols-for-his-great-start-to-the-2022-mlb-season-455-20220505-SPD-455.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Colorado Rockies</a>, a number of teams were interested in acquiring his services.



The <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/mlb/the-top-3-mlb-rivalries-of-all-time-267-20220503-SPD-267.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Boston Red Sox</a> eventually beat stiff competition to sign him to a six-year, $140 million deal. Story, however, got off to a poor start to his tenure at <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/mlb/angels-star-shohei-ohtani-reveals-how-much-he-loves-to-play-at-fenway-park-512-20220506-SPD-512.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fenway Park</a>, where he has already been booed by home fans.



Story continued to struggle on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, completing a forgettable week in his career. Fortunately, Red Sox manager Alex Cora hasn’t thrown him under the bus.



<h2>Alex Cora believes in Trevor Story</h2>



Even though Story is not performing as expected this season, Cora has refused to make him the scapegoat to the Red Sox’s woes. “If you start talking about certain guys, I don’t know,” Cora said, per Masslive, via ClutchPoints.



“As an offense, we’re not doing too much. When he was hitting sixth or he’s leading off, we haven’t done much. We cannot look at one guy to get the offense going. And he knows he’s working. We know he’s going to be better. Right now it doesn’t look great but we trust the player.”



Cora, however, didn’t rule out the option of making changes in the lineup ahead of the road series against the Atlanta Braves. “We’ll see where we’re at Tuesday,” Cora said. “We have to make adjustments. It’s an adjustment game. … Whatever lineup we have Tuesday is the lineup we’re going to have Tuesday and we have to be better.”
