Deshaun Watson‘s ongoing right shoulder injury has been a source of confusion and frustration for both fans and the Browns organization. Watson acknowledged that he may have rushed his return during the Browns’ Week 7 victory over the Colts, a game in which he exited early under somewhat mysterious circumstances.



“I don’t know. The usual recovery time for rotator cuff injuries is four to six weeks,” Watson stated when questioned about his hasty return. “I felt that, at the three to four-week mark, I had a chance to play. But I lacked the strength and readiness to complete a full game.” Watson acknowledged that he may have rushed his return during the Browns’ Week 7 victory over the Colts.



In a candid admission be admitted not being ready for a game in which he exited under somewhat mysterious circumstances. “I don’t know. Watson admitted, “I wouldn’t say I felt perfect on that Friday,” referring to his full participation in practice before Week 7. “I was pushing through it because of my competitive nature. I thought I had enough. But the reality is, practice is very controlled, especially on Fridays. It’s a different ballgame when you’re out there on Sundays with live action.”



After the disappointment of Week 7, the decision was made to sit him out for Week 8, with PJ Walker starting. Both Watson and Stefanski declined to elaborate on whether Watson’s participation in the previous week might have negatively impacted his long-term recovery, but Stefanski did mention that Watson still had some residual swelling in his throwing shoulder.



The uncertainty surrounding Watson’s condition has undoubtedly been frustrating for Browns fans, many of whom had high hopes for a full season from him after his shortened 2022 campaign due to suspension. Watson is eager to return to the field. “Why wouldn’t I want to play?” he expressed. “I’ve worked hard for two years to get back on the field, so why wouldn’t I want to play?”

The veteran signal-caller was traded to the Indianapolis Colts, which will be his second team in his career after 14 years in <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/how-many-nfl-teams-have-not-won-a-super-bowl-ring-in-their-history-97-20220502-SPD-97.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Atlanta</a>. The decision took many by surprise, given that the front office seemed to support Ryan as QB1.



But things changed when the Falcons joined the race for Deshaun Watson. Even though he ended up at the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta’s interest in another quarterback has influenced Ryan’s decision to leave. 



<h2>If Falcons hadn’t pursued Deshaun Watson, Matt Ryan might have stayed</h2>



“Had none of this gone down? There’s probably a chance — a pretty good chance,” Ryan said in The Ryen Rusillo podcast when asked if he would still be in Atlanta had they not chased Watson. “But it did, you know? So when it does, when the situations change and the circumstances change… You know, I had always thought, like everybody, when you’re drafted there, and you play there, this is where I’m going to play my entire career. 



“For 14 years, every day I woke up, it was to try and help the Falcons win a championship. And that had been reciprocated on the other end for me. And so when that changed, I had to look into it. It’s certainly been a big change, for sure. But a good one. And so, it’s hard to say. But I think honestly, it’s more than likely I probably would’ve still been there had circumstances been different. But I’m excited with where I’m at.”



Ryan’s reaction makes a lot of sense, he realized his job security was lower than it seemed and decided to find a new team before it was too late. Now it’s time to move on, as the Colts will demand the best from him.
