MLB’s playoffs culminate with the World Series, which is held each year. Except for the World Series in 1903, 1919, 1920, and 1921, which were decided by a best-of-nine playoff, the best-of-seven format has been used in every World Series since that time. Despite the fact that the majority of matches were played exclusively in October, there were a few Series in which games were played in September and November as well.
By 2021, 117 World Series were played, with the American League champion winning 66 of them and the National League winner taking home 51. With 27 World Series championships to their name, the New York Yankees of the American League have the most championship appearances and triumphs among the four major North American sports leagues.
The San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Milwaukee Brewers are the only current MLB teams that have played in the World Series but have never won it; the Seattle Mariners, on the other hand, are the only ones who have never played in one. Sole the Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Washington Nationals have won their only World Series appearance, while the Toronto Blue Jays and the Miami Marlins have won both of their World Series appearances.
