With Deshaun Watson receiving a six-game suspension, Jacoby Brissett is expected to take the reins of the Cleveland Browns at the beginning of the 2022 NFL season.

Given that Baker Mayfield‘s days with the team were numbered, Cleveland acquired Brissett in free agency earlier this offseason knowing that it might need him in case Watson was suspended.

Brissett knows a thing or two about stepping up when needed, as he previously took over at the Patriots, Colts, and Dolphins on short notice. Therefore, he looks prepared to head into this season as starter.

Jacoby Brissett feels prepared to start for Browns during Watson’s suspension

“It’s been my situation throughout my career,” Brissett said, via Jake Trotter of ESPN.com. Nothing that I’m unfamiliar with. Always been ready to go, whenever my number’s called and that’s the case at this point now.

“Since I’ve been in this league, it’s been the next man up. So that experience obviously helps with not only the playing, but also like the mindset of understanding — you gotta be ready whenever your number is called.”
