After making a big effort to select him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers look ready to promote Trey Lance as the starting quarterback for the 2022 season.
Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be traded. But first he has to complete rehab from surgery on his throwing arm, and then pave the way for the young quarterback to take the reins of the team.
The Niners made a deep run in last season’s playoffs, losing to eventual Super Bowl winners Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. Even so, there is some skepticism around both Garoppolo and Lance.
Trey Lance has the perfect answer for the doubters
One of the brightest prospects of his class, Lance struggled to win the job last year. Now, some people doubt he is prepared to be the Niners quarterback. However, he is not paying attention to the outside noise.
“In the most respectful way possible, it doesn’t change how I feel about you guys as people, but it’s not my job to care what you guys say or anyone else on social media,” Lance said, via ClutchPoints. “For me, I care about what the guys in the locker room think and what my coaching staff thinks.”
It will be interesting how this season plays out for him. The Niners’ defense has already proven to be solid and just need a dependable quarterback to reach new heights. Will Lance be that guy? Only time will tell.
