Sean Payton decided to step away from coaching in 2022 after 15 years at the helm of the New Orleans Saints. Despite he will take at least a year off from the NFL, he’s been making big headlines over the last few months.
Payton, 58, is still too young for many to believe he retired for good. Besides, it seems that many teams would be glad to hire him. Carolina, Miami, and Dallas were mentioned as potential landing spots for Payton in 2023.
Though he’s not planning to change his mind this year, the 2009 Super Bowl-winning coach admitted he will probably come back at some point. But he can’t tell where, yet.
Sean Payton admits he will likely get back to coaching
“Ultimately, do I think I’ll get back in? Sure,” Payton told Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “There’s no way to predict who that club might be. Usually, there are about six openings every year. If there’s a right fit somewhere, that ultimately will depend on several factors.”
Payton led the Saints to a long-awaited Super Bowl triumph during the 2009 season, winning the big game in February, 2010 in Miami. His work in New Orleans was certainly impressive, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see many teams going after Payton if he decides to come back.
