LeBron James has finally made a decision about his future, signing a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, it’s time for the team to do its part and surround The King with championship material.
Last season, it became crystal clear the Purple and Gold need to make changes if they want to be competitive. Not only they failed to challenge for the title, but they didn’t even qualified for the playoffs.
The front office has already gotten to work, hiring Darvin Ham as the new head coach and getting James tied to a new deal. The next step is to upgrade the roster, and they reportedly are willing to do whatever it takes to get Kyrie Irving.
NBA Rumors: Lakers Open To Include First-Round Picks For Irving
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers are willing to sacrifice their two first round picks in a package for Irving that would also include Russell Westbrook. Via Lakers Nation:
“The Lakers are still active in trade talks around the league. Rob Pelinka has remained using– listen, they have two real assets to put out there to do a significant trade. That’s their 27 and 2029 first-round picks, if unprotected have a lot of value in the marketplace. The Lakers, I’m told, would be willing to do that in a Kyrie Irving trade but that’s not something the Nets have been interested in.
“One other deal…the Lakers have had some on-and-off-again talks about with Indiana, Myles Turner, Buddy Hield. They have not been willing to give up two future firsts in that deal. Russell Westbrook would be in any of those deals.”
The Lakers would surrender their first-round picks only for Irving, who has already succeeded with LeBron in Cleveland. The big question is whether the Nets would approve the deal, as they’d be restructuring their roster if they do so.
