Any NBA team with competent leadership might achieve great success. It doesn’t matter how many skilled players you have if you don’t have a competent leader who can make the necessary changes and steer the ship to victory.
In the NBA, where head coaches come and go often, extended tenure with one club is not always rewarded. However, it is reasonable to assume that some of them deserve the such status.
As the 2022-23 regular season winds down, we examine each and every trophy that will be handed out. It appears the league couldn’t go wrong with any of these three coaches winning Coach of the Year.
3. Mark Daigenault
The Oklahoma City Thunder probably won’t reach the NBA playoffs this year, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a successful season. Mark Daigenault should be commended for getting these finished considerably ahead of time.
The squad in question sometimes played without its star player. Not only did they not have Chet Holmgren suit up for them this season, but they also continued to play around with.500-level basketball for most of the year and a spot in the playoffs.
2. Joe Mazzulla
Similarly to his predecessor Ime Udoka, Joe Mazzulla showed immediate coaching prowess. Though the Boston Celtics are perhaps the strongest team in the NBA, he still turned up a good performance.
Since having Mazzulla as their defensive coach, the Celtics have improved. Since he has been around since the last procedure, continuity is guaranteed, and on top of that, he has shown to be an effective manager of people and a catalyst for the team’s revival after a disappointing stretch.
1. Mike Brown
The Sacramento Kings are back in the playoffs thanks to Mike Brown, and it’s evident that they aren’t content or finished just yet. Their young players have made progress thanks to the 53-year-old coach.
He has shown his willingness to take a bullet for any of these men, and they have demonstrated their faith in him. Barring a catastrophe, things will remain excellent for the Kings for a very long time.
