Payton, 58, is still too young for many to believe he retired for good. Besides, it seems that many teams would be glad to hire him. Carolina, Miami, and Dallas were mentioned as potential landing spots for Payton in 2023.



Though he’s not planning to change his mind this year, the 2009 <a href="https://news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/super-bowl-champions-list-of-all-time-winners-215-20220503-SPD-215.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Super Bowl</a>-winning coach admitted he will probably come back at some point. But he can’t tell where, yet.

“Ultimately, do I think I’ll get back in? Sure,” Payton told Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “There’s no way to predict who that club might be. Usually, there are about six openings every year. If there’s a right fit somewhere, that ultimately will depend on several factors.”



Payton led the Saints to a long-awaited Super Bowl triumph during the 2009 season, winning the big game in February, 2010 in Miami. His work in New Orleans was certainly impressive, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see many teams going after Payton if he decides to come back.

Last year was not easy for Jared Goff. Lions head coach Dan Campbell, however, is not worried about the quarterback position. For him, Goff finished the year strongly and will pick up where he left off come September.

For the 2024 NFL Draft, the Browns will get a fourth or fifth round selection depending on how much the quarterback plays in Carolina. In order for a fourth-round choice, a league source told ESPN‘s David Newton that the quarterback would have to play 70 percent of the plays.

As long as Joe Burrow is at the helm, no one should count the Bengals out. Last year they have gone further than predicted, but it seems that they have no plans of slowing down.

When the <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/super-bowl-champions-list-of-all-time-winners-215-20220503-SPD-215.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Giants</a> selected Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the expectations were through the roof. <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/how-many-times-has-tom-brady-won-the-nfl-mvp-award-and-the-super-bowl-mvp-award-173-20220502-SPD-173.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eli Manning</a>‘s days at the helm of the team were coming to an end and the Duke product was seen as his successor.



Jones got off to a promising start to his rookie year, but it didn’t last long. Three years later, the quarterback enters the final season of his contract after the team rejected to trigger a fifth-year option.



His future in New York seems to depend on how he performs in 2022. Jones has so far struggled in the <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/nfl-news-rob-gronkowski-retires-for-second-time-in-career-after-two-seasons-with-buccaneers-1700-20220622-SPD-1700.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a>, completing 62.8% of his passes while throwing for 45 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. With Jones as starter, the Giants went 12-25. And he cares a lot about it.

“Just the lack of success? Um, yeah, it weighs on me a great deal,’’ Jones told Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “When you put a lot of time and effort into something and you don’t see the results, I think that’s tough when you’re doing anything. 



“Playing football in the NFL, playing football in New York, I think there’s a heavy weight to that. I and the whole team feel that and we’re working as hard as we can to avoid being in this situation in the future. Yeah, it weighs on me heavy.’’



With only one year left in his contract, Jones knows he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. The Giants have already made significant changes this year, and only time will tell whether Jones will be part of more changes in the future as well.

Originally due to expire at the conclusion of the 2023 season, the <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/nfl-news-new-orleans-saints-sign-wide-receiver-jarvis-landry-on-one-year-deal-801-20220515-SPD-801.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Orleans Saints</a> and linebacker <a href="https:\/\/news.thesportsdrop.com/nfl/nfl-news-rob-gronkowski-retires-for-second-time-in-career-after-two-seasons-with-buccaneers-1700-20220622-SPD-1700.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Demario Davis</a> have reached an agreement to extend his deal. The veteran has signed a one-year contract deal until 2024, according to ESPN‘s Field Yates.



Until the end of the 2024 season, he’ll be able to earn $14 million, which includes a $10 million basic pay, a $2 million roster bonus, and $2 million in incentives. From 2022 through 2024, the Saints tacked on an additional $2 million in incentives for a grand total of $6 million.



There is a new $250,000 workout bonus and a guaranteed $1 million in Davis’ 2023 basic salary of $8.25 million. New Orleans’ 2022 salary cap is unaffected by this decision, says Yates.



<h2>Davis to remain in New Orleans until 2024</h2>



Davis, 33, was drafted by the Jets in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. When he signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Browns in 2016, he received $4.2 million guaranteed. In 2017, the Jets acquired the linebacker in exchange for S Calvin Pryor. 



Next, he agreed to terms with the Saints for a three-year, $24 million contract the following year. A full-time player in 2021, Davis had a productive season with the Saints, playing in all 16 games and totaling 105 tackles, three sacks, and seven pass deflections.
